Metlink school bus routes

See below a list of schools and the dedicated school bus routes that serve them. We encourage parents to read your child's school newsletter or school website for any important information for bus riders. If your school or home area is not served by a dedicated school bus, public bus or train services may be part of your journey. Use the Journey planner to explore your options.

School buses only run during school terms

During school holidays, the school buses do not run. School holiday dates can be found on the Ministry of Education website(external link).

Riding the bus to school

We're committed to ensuring your child's safety on public transport, and expect all passengers to treat each other and the driver with respect.

Operators prioritise school services over public bus services. School bus cancellations are extremely rare, but can happen in case of vehicle breakdowns and other emergencies. We recommend parents check service alerts for their child's school service, and register for notifications of children's school services in MyMetlink.
Drivers are instructed to never leave children behind at bus stops. However, we recommend parents and children have a backup plan in case they miss the bus or if the bus is full and cannot pick them up.
School children are allowed on all public bus, train, and ferry services.
School children need to carry their school ID or wear their school uniform when using public transport.
Bikes are not allowed on school buses (even if it has a bike rack), but small folding scooters are allowed.
Uni students, parents and teachers can't ride the school buses.
The rules of the bus still apply on school services, including rules about food and drink, noise, and behaviour as described in the Conditions of carriage.
Drivers will do their best to manage behaviour on the bus, including bullying, but they may not always see it happening or be able to intervene while driving. We encourage students to talk to their parents or school staff if they experience or witness bullying of any kind.
We expect school children, just like everyone else, to give priority seats on public buses and trains to those who need it, such as people who are disabled, elderly, or pregnant mothers.
