Paraparaumu Northbound Platform Upgrade

Stations

Paraparaumu's Northbound Platform is getting upgraded.

Description

Metlink is completing an upgrade to the Paraparaumu Northbound Platform, which is the final step in a larger body of works that have taken place, future proofing Paraparaumu’s transport hub to cater to the growth of the region.

From Friday, 20 June, the northbound station building will be cordoned off to the public, as Metlink undertakes a partial demolition over Matariki Public Holiday weekend, in preparation for a refurbishment in July. The upgrade, fully funded by Greater Wellington (GWRC), is due to be completed late November 2025, with the work focused on delivering thoughtful upgrades to enhance customer experience without unnecessary cost.

From Friday, 20 June, there will be minor changes to the experience on the northbound platform:
  • Fencing will go up around the whole building reducing access to seating and shelter and narrowing accessways.  You can still use the stairs and ramp at the northern end of the building.

  • All trains will stop in line with the steps at the top of the underpass.  This is about 65 meters south of where they currently stop. An extra Snapper card reader will be available just south of the building.

  • A shelter with some seating will be installed 20 meters away from the current building

  • The accessibility toilet in the northbound building will close. Toilets are still open during business hours in the building on the southbound platform.

Benefits

Customers can expect a train station that is:
  • Safer, with improved earthquake resilience, upgraded CCTV and extra lighting.

  • Has better connection points to and from the bus hub, including a new thoroughfare.

  • Weatherproof, with improved shelter and seating options for waiting passengers.

  • Modernised, the building designed to fit seamlessly into other recent hub upgrades.

  • Fit with upgraded accessibility facilities.
