KiwiRail Upgrades: Trentham to Upper Hutt
Description
Trentham to Upper Hutt (T2UH) adds a second track between Trentham and Upper Hutt, along with two refurbished platforms and overhead lines. Porirua Area Capacity Enhancement (PACE) project will upgrade Plimmerton Station to enable Wellington commuter trains to turn at Plimmerton instead of Porirua.
If further funding is received, the team will upgrade and add Substations which are needed to power trains.

Metlink is working with KiwiRail on this project.
Updates
T2UH is complete. PACE work is on schedule to be complete after Christmas 2023.
Substation work, if funded, is anticipated to be finished in 2027.
Benefits
A more reliable network with increased frequency and faster trains to keep up with demand. A more comfortable experience for commuters.
Customer Impact
Buses will replace some train services, mostly during weekends and public holidays.
