Temporary outage for contactless payments on Metlink buses

Disruptions & Detours
Metlink is advising passengers that contactless payment functionality (e‑pay) on board buses will be temporarily unavailable from this afternoon due to a software issue with Snapper validators.

Metlink and its ticketing partner Snapper are working together to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, with a software update expected to be deployed in the next few days.

In the meantime, passengers can continue to travel using Snapper cards or cash.

Senior Manager Strategy & Investments for Metlink, Tim Shackleton, says Metlink apologises for the inconvenience and thanks passengers for their patience while the issue is resolved.

“We know more and more of our customers are choosing contactless payments for convenience, so we’re sorry for the disruption this will cause as buses stop accepting contactless payment from this afternoon onwards,” says Tim Shackleton.

“Our teams are working closely with Snapper to implement a fix as soon as possible. In the meantime, passengers need to use a Snapper card or cash when travelling on our buses,” adds Tim Shackleton.

Train and ferry contactless payments are unaffected and Metlink will provide an update when contactless payments are restored to buses.
