We are pleased to announce that the trial of a Wairarapa nine carriage train, meaning an additional 64 seats, will run the week of 24 September.

From Monday until Thursday there will be nine cars on the busy 4.25pm service from Wellington, and on Tuesday until Friday there will be nine cars on the 6.20am service from Masterton.

The trial trains will be stopping at all the usual Wairarapa stations. Thanks for your feedback during the earlier polls; we took this feedback into account in determining how this trial would run.

Due to the length of the train and platforms not all external doors can be used for boarding or exiting the train. The door closest to Wellington will remain closed and the three carriages closest to Masterton will be the only ones with doors opening at Waterloo, Renall Street, Solway, Matarawa and Maymorn.

When travelling to Wellington

The front door of the first carriage will not be able to be opened. However, this carriage can be accessed via the back external door of the first carriage.

At Waterloo station passengers will need to use the back three carriages. This is the same access as currently available at Renall Street, Solway, Matarawa and Maymorn as these stations have shorter platforms.

When travelling to Masterton

The back door, of the rear carriage (closest to Wellington Station) will not be able to be opened. However, this carriage can be accessed via the front external door of the last carriage.

At Waterloo station passengers will need to use the front three carriages. This is the same access as currently available at Renall Street, Solway, Matarawa and Maymorn as these stations have shorter platforms.

Train trial

  • Green ticks - only these three carriages are accessible at Waterloo, Renall Street, Solway, Matarawa and Maymorn stations
  • Red cross - this door is not accessible at any station.
