Service Updates > COVID-19: Wairarapa line services - Alert Level 2 update
Valid from: 04/05/2020 12:00am
Services continue to run as trains to a regular timetable and with the regular number of carriages but there are still some changes to the way this service is used. Metlink fares will continue to be free for travel until 30 June and tickets will not be sold or checked over this time.
Customers will be encouraged to continue their own physical distancing practices on all trains and while at stations. We ask that you respect physical distancing with fellow passengers and our staff so they can continue to run the trains for you and provide a core service to the community.
If a service is too busy and you would not be able to exercise the appropriate physical distancing, then you may need to wait for the next service. We do expect capacity to be impacted to ensure physical distancing on board so those customers travelling on public transport should try to avoid peak times unless they are going to work or school.
Renall Street, Solway, Matarawa and Maymorn Stations
Due to the platforms at these stations being short not all carriages fit and the staff only area means you are not able to relocate to the other end of the train once you have boarded, passengers wishing to travel to these stations need to board the correct carriage.
- Boarding service to Masterton: Passengers wishing to disembark at any of these stations must board the front two carriages.
- Boarding services to Wellington: Passengers wishing to disembark at any of these stations must board the rear two carriages.
Metlink fares will continue to be free for travel until 30 June and tickets will not be sold or checked over this time. Any luggage will need to remain with you and bikes will not be allowed on any service as the staff will not be storing anything in the luggage area. If you have any questions about Metlink travel please refer to the Metlink website or call centre on 0800 801 700
Staff On Board
Staff will not be walking through any carriages and will remain in dedicated taped off staff areas on board. Please remain clear of all taped off areas.
At stations the emergency duress points are available for contact with our security team. For any general rail enquiries, you will still need to contact the Metlink team by phone on 0800 801 700 or online.
Delays to Service
To be able to deliver this service there may be additional delays to these services as we change the way our staff perform their roles to maintain physical distancing on board. We appreciate your patience.
Passengers requiring the wheelchair ramp
Currently passengers who require the wheelchair ramp must use the Total Mobility service as an alternative for travel.
From Monday 18 May passengers who require the wheelchair ramp to board services will be able to use this to board services so as long as they can maintain physical distancing with staff whilst doing so. Staff will deploy the ramp and then the passenger will be able to board the service so long as they do not require assistance.
If assistance is required passengers must use the alternative Total Mobility service which is free until 30 June.
