We are bus replacing three morning and three afternoon services and their returns on the Johnsonville line due to a driver shortage.

During peak on the Johnsonville line trains depart every 15 minutes, but due to the driver shortage we will be bus replacing three services (one an hour) and their returns each peak.

This driver shortage is forecast to continue to be tight until mid-2019, but we will update you regularly as the situation changes. The next update will be on Friday 12 April. Any additional service reductions or bus replacement due to staff shortage will be messaged out about as soon as they arise.

We don't have enough train drivers to operate our full timetable right now. Despite extensive planning, forecasting, recruiting and training unfortunately we could not have foreseen this shortage. It takes 12 months to train new drivers in this safety critical role. Our training school is full with the next school of trainees due to graduate in April 2019. We are also taking extra measures internally to juggle the roster and use certified staff wherever possible and are working to return to a regular train timetable as soon as we can.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and are doing everything we can to get back to a full train timetable.

We are always interested to hear from new recruits and invite those interested to apply here (external link) .The next driver intake will be in April 2019 when our current trainees graduate.
