Events & extra services

Sometimes we have to detour bus routes for events

Large outdoor events often require bus routes to detour and some bus stops to close temporarily. Service alerts will notify you of current and upcoming detours for events.

Detours & closures

Large events sometimes have extra services

Large events will sometimes work with Metlink to get extra bus or train services so that more people can catch public transport to or from the event. Event services are not displayed online the same way as regular timetables and trips, so the journey planner and real time departures won't show the extra services. Extra services will be published in service alerts, and usually are posted on our social media accounts. See the Train tickets page for information about Event train tickets.

Extra Metlink services for large public events

Large public events that could overwhelm local traffic or regular bus capacity should contact the Metlink Service Centre for more information about requesting extra public services for the event. Even if we aren't able to add extra services, we'll be sure to let our customers in the area know to expect delays and busy services.

Metlink does not book or manage charter services for private or small events or for group travel. Contact our operators directly to request a private charter.
