Newtown Festival Detour & Shuttle
Newtown Festival

Newtown streets, including parts of Riddiford Street, Rintoul Street and Constable Street, are closed for the festival. Buses will detour from 5am to 9pm, and a festival shuttle will run between Wellington Station, the Festival, and Kilbirnie from 9:30am to 7pm. Expect delays due to traffic and detours.
Bus Detours
Buses that normally stop on Riddiford Street near the Newtown Shops area detour via Daniell Street and Owen Street, using temporary stops.
Temporary bus stops to City:
- Mein Street near Riddiford Street
- Daniell Street near Constable Street
- Rhodes Street near Riddiford Street (Bus 29 only)
Temporary bus stops to Suburbs:
- Mein Street near 41
- Owen Street near 57
- Rhodes Street near Riddiford Street (Bus 29 only)
Buses that normally stop on Rintoul Street (route 1) detour via Adelaide Road, following the usual 32x route and bus stops. Buses will not stop at any stops on Rintoul Street or Luxford Street during the festival detour.

Please note: Route 1 buses do not stop at the Hospital during the festival, due to the detour.
Route 1 buses will still appear on real time information screens at the hospital, however they will not drop off or pickup at the hospital.
We recommend transferring to a route 4, 23, or 29 bus at Courtenay Place if you need to be dropped off near the hospital.
Festival Shuttle
Half hourly service, stopping at all stops.
Shuttle starts at Wellington Station Stop A, and travels via the Golden Mile, Courtenay Place, Basin Reserve, Hospital, Festival and Kilbirnie, then follows same route back to Wellington Station.
Shuttle departure times and tracking do not show on real time information or the Metlink app or website.
