Detours & closures
Starts Tuesday 7 May 2024 until end of July 2024
What is happening?
Hutt City Council are undertaking safety improvements on Akatea Rd and London Road. Roading changes are required resulting in a one-way closure.
How will it impact buses?
This one-way traffic management and the lower Korokoro Road weight limit impacts all bus services.
Route 154 buses are replaced with 11-seater shuttles, these shuttles can travel the full one-way detour. Starting from Petone Station, these shuttles travel along London Rd to Akatea Rd to Maungaraki Rd to Korokoro Rd, continuing along the lower section of Korokoro Rd returning to Petone Station.

Bus schedule and capacity limits?
Shuttles depart from Petone Station as per normal Route 154 regular departing times, see timetable below.
It is expected that the shuttle will take approximately 15/20 minutes to complete the loop. Passengers will be unable to track the shuttle as it makes its way around the one-way loop.
Limited capacity: due to the narrow work site along Akatea Rd and restricted weight limit on lower Korokoro Rd, we are only able to use 11-seater shuttle buses, resulting in limited capacity. Please take this into consideration when planning your travel.

What stops are closed?
All downhill bus stops on London Road (9090, 8092, 809, 8093) will remain closed throughout the work.
Passengers who normally use those stops will need to use the stops on the opposite of the road.
Impact to school students?
Students who normally catch the Route 154, school extension leaving Petone Station at 7:43am will continue to catch this Metlink bus.
This bus will make its way from Petone Station, picking students up as it makes its way up London Rd, along Korokoro Rd and return up Singers Rd, travelling up Maungaraki Rd. This morning bus will not return to Petone Station, this bus will continue past stop 8099 at Titiro Moana Rd, detouring via Maungaraki Rd toward Protea St to Acacia Ave to Dowse Drive, then onto St Oran’s College, Chilton St James, St Bernard’s College, Hutt Intermediate, St Peter and Paul, Sacred Heart College, and Hutt Valley High School.

Students who normally catch this school extension on London Rd will need to use the stops on the opposite side of the road and be aware that they will need to board the bus earlier than they currently do.
Students who normally catch the bus at Akatea Rd at Maungaraki Rd stop 8094- must use the temporary stop located directly opposite.
Can students catch the 154-school extension as per normal at 805am at Petone Station?
Students who normally catch this school extension from Petone Station will not be able to catch this bus as it will be detouring via Dowse Drive. These students will need to catch the school bus 854 leaving Petone Station at 8am.
What is the impact to afternoon school buses?
Afternoon school buses 855 and 854 will continue as per normal. There will be a minor detour where students will be dropped off along Korokoro Rd first, before the bus makes it way up Maungaraki Rd.
